Engagement Volunteers

Who are we?

Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is an award-winning zoo set in 100-acres of beautiful countryside (just six miles from Bristol). We have an exciting animal collection of over 100 species, which includes African Elephants, Spectacled Bears, Lions, Rhinos, Giraffes, and Birds of Prey.

Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm became a charity on the 5th April 2023. Our charitable aims are Conservation, Education and Wellbeing. Connecting with nature, getting up close to the animals, learning in fun and immersive ways and enjoying play together naturally compliments our charitable aims. We are always looking for more ways to benefit our visitors and local community and we strive to be a place where we can enrich people and enhance their wellbeing.

We have been recognised with multiple awards at a Regional and National level for our animal enclosures, education, sustainability, and green tourism. We were awarded Gold at the Visit England Awards for Excellence in 2023 for Accessible and Inclusive Tourism.

What is an Engagement Volunteer ?

As an Engagement Volunteer at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, you will enhance our visitor experience during their time with us by ensuring all visitors have a fun, educational and memorable experience.

We encourage our volunteers to ask questions that are aimed to help visitors discover more about the zoo, animal exhibits, conservation, and our charitable aims.

You could be located in:

  • The Bird Walkthrough
  • Near our Bear and Lion enclosures
  • Animal Village / Farm Barns / Gibbons / Meerkats / Wings of Wonder

What’s in it for you?

Gain an insight and expand your knowledge into Conservation and Animal Welfare.

Spend some time outside with nature, be away from your work, find a new hobby, meet new friends, and be surrounded by amazing animals!

Some of what you could be doing as an Engagement Volunteer:

  • Deliver outstanding public engagement to all our visitors by being a point of contact, answer questions, give directions, and always engage positively at all times.
  • Be visual and assist in the Brid Walkthrough and Wings of Wonder, overseeing capacity / crowd control, and interacting with our visitors.
  • Assist with crowd control in our daily animal handling sessions.
  • Ensure cleanliness standards are always maintained to a high standard and take pride in the appearance of the bird walk through, animal barns and park.
  • Report any issues or problems to a member of zoo staff to drive continuous improvement.
  • Offer a positive first response when handling visitor feedback, complaints, or queries.

Who are we looking for?

You must be 18+ years of age and happy to be outside in all weather conditions.

We are initially offering the placement on a trial basis of 3 months and then your placement will be reviewed.

Friendly, polite, confident people, who are comfortable speaking to visitors and being part of a team plus an interest of animals and zoos would be advantageous.

You should also be willing to learn the answers to the most frequently asked questions and learn basic knowledge about the animals, (you will be provided with this information), but we ask that you do your best to learn it so that you can answer questions without having to refer to your notes.

Reliable and regular. We ask that our volunteers are able to attend at least one regular weekend day (Saturday/Sunday), or a Friday from either 11am – 2pm or 2pm – 5pm. Our Engagement Volunteers will be provided with an orange t-shirt and jumper (at a small cost).
