World Elephant Day and Africa Week

To celebrate World Elephant Day on Saturday 12th August a troop of African dancers will be stampeding through Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm. Featuring acrobats, Afro-Brazilian dancers and many more surprises. What’s more you and the family can get involved with drumming and dance demonstrations courtesy of Unika Dance Events.

The African Carnival Parades will be taking place 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm with a special dance and drum tutorial taking place in the Ark Arena at 3.30pm.

Fundraising activities will be taking place to support the Elephants and Bees Project. The Elephants and Bees Project is an innovative study using an in-depth understanding of elephant behavior to reduce damage from crop-raiding elephants using their instinctive avoidance of African honey bees. The project explores the use of novel Beehive Fences as a natural elephant deterrent creating a social and economic boost to poverty-stricken rural communities through pollination services and the sustainable harvesting of “Elephant-Friendly Honey”.

Activities will include our keeper’s toughing it out in a tug of war over the Elephant Wallow, crafts, social media challenges and much much more….

Following on from World Elephant Day, Africa Week takes centre stage at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm. Every day of the week we will be raining down the spotlight on specific African species. Experiences, talks, crafts and much more will be taking place each day. Proceedings will be shared between the keepers chosen charities. Events include:
