A Week of Grand Openings!
27th Feb 2015
As you know Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is constantly buzzing with activity, but this week has been especially eventful. We have been thrilled to welcome both Liam Fox MP and Lady Gass (Lord Lieutenant of Somerset) to open various new features of our zoo. These official openings mark the start of new beginnings and are evidence of our continuous efforts to improve and develop our surroundings, making a day trip to Noah’s Ark Zoo farm even more enjoyable for visitors.
Last Saturday, Liam Fox MP paid us a visit and officially opened our new biomass heating system, switching it on to heat the play barns. Biomass heating systems use forest, agricultural, urban and industrial residues and waste to produce heat and electricity. This has far less of an impact on the environment than fossil fuels, and means we are staying true to our green roots. The new system uses an environmentally-friendly Lindner & Sommereaur L250 biomass boiler (with a 195kW output of heat) from a company called Rainbow Heat and Power.
Mr Fox also officially opened our recently refurbished play areas in our Ark iVentures play barn. Ark iVentures is the largest of our play barns, complete with ball pits, drop slide, aerial walkways, trampolines and mini tractors. Smaller children absolutely love driving around on the tractor track. Fun-time doesn’t end there though; we have a huge range of indoor and outdoor adventures to be had – whatever the weather. Our heated indoor barns are ideal for drizzly or cold days, but we also have plenty of outdoor space to enjoy – including outdoor trampolines, Wallaby Hill (with zip lines, a climbing wall, rope bridges, swings and a Noah’s Ark!), and splash pool (don’t forget your wellies!). In terms of new animal features, there’s been plenty going on this week, too. Lady Gass visited on Monday to open our new Macaw House and Aviary. Here, we have a variety of bright and beautiful parrots that have been recently given to us by Birdline UK to provide them with a better quality of life. As well as parrots, we have a wide variety of birds throughout the zoo; from peacocks and pheasants to emus and ostriches. We also have a walk-through aviary where you can feed the chickens, ducks, geese and more.
Although we have many big zoo animals, including elephants, tigers and lions, we also have a beautiful selection of farmyard animals – from horses and donkeys to pigs and lambs. We are also very fond of our goats, and this week we were delighted that Lady Gass could also open our new Goat Shed and Yard and meet some of our adorable new baby goat kids. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, why not head to Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm and meet our baby goats for yourself? As well as this, you’ll get up-close with some of our otheramazing animals, and now that our biomass heating system is here you can enjoy our toasty play barn areas too!
